Sometimes I get burned out on putting out (creatively, that is) to the point that just the thought of writing or blogging another word almost causes physical pain. In those times, it's generally best if I take a break for a few days and just absorb other people's output. This week has been one of those times.
Of course, it doesn't help that I've felt fairly crappy for most of the week. I didn't catch the plague, thank goodness. I think my problem has just been a great big stew of reacting to the dismal weather, allergy headaches, indigestion and not enough sleep to be able to take those things in stride. I mean, cold, wet weather pretty much makes me want to do nothing but sleep, eat and read anyway, without figuring sleep deprivation and physical ailments into the equation.
Today I'm no less useless than I have been all week, and my short attention span has been kept occupied by YouTube hilarity and other forms of video wackiness all day. To wit:

And that's about as much blogging as I can stomach for now. Hopefully by Monday I'll be ready to start putting out (creatively! Sheesh!) once again.
Happy weekend, everybody.

First, this fan-made credits sequence for the new Angel comic made me warm and happy inside:
Second, James Marsters will play Piccolo in a live action Dragon Ball Z movie.
Er. Um. Piccolo? Really? Yay?
Not that I don't love Piccolo, but this is SO close to the fantasies I used to have of him playing Vegeta. And yet so far...

Lo, I am full of links:
Halloween DIY Project: Make your own zombie! This is a bit more literal than one would expect.
GuyzNite - Have a nice pumpkin! - Because I just can't resist a good (or a just plain silly) Halloween parody.
Jack Baby by Warren Ellis - get creeped out in just 200 words.
Low Resolution has compiled a nice little collection of terrifying movie moments (two of which are on this list). He's also posting running commentary on his self-inflicted Halloween horror movie marathon.
Relatedly, there's a nice discussion of The Descent going on over at Tomato Nation.
Finally, I leave you with this thought: "Sometimes, dead is bettah!"

I don't think I'm going to catch up to the point of posting 31 Halloween links by October 31st, but here are a few to get you through the weekend.
Halloween Theme Homage:
Everyone should definitely check out this guy's Jaws and Superman themes while they're at it.
Vampire is not your friend. Beware the lies put forth by the vampire lobby. For serious.
And this should provide a little Halloween ambiance (not to mention delight the Batman fans on my list).

The kid in this video is hella cute and he does a mean zombie face, but mostly I just love this song: No More Kings - Zombie Me
And now I'm all caught up.

Scalzi started me down a trail of Danny Elfman YouTube goodness, which eventually led me to this: rough recordings of three songs from Little Demons, a Nightmare-esque musical he scripted about a trio of child serial killers. I can't for the life of me imagine why it never got picked up. But seriously, these songs are pretty awesome, in that morbid, comically creepy way of his.

Well, kids, I had planned to regale you today with tales of unexpected mosh pits and made-for-TV grade horror attempting to pass as something truly horrifying--intentionally so, that is, and not just the horrific badness that I'm sure was unintentional. But my job actually required me to do stuff all day, so these things will have to wait for another time.
So for now, I'll just direct you to TV Week's Pilot Previews, which I've not yet had a chance to view myself.
And then I'll leave you with this, because it made me chuckle:
Happy weekend, everybody!

As infuriating and distracting as is all of the roof construction hereabouts, at least it's not as bad as all this:

It's an ad... but it's a fun one.
"Punjabi Girl" - This is a HIGH-larious Bollywood parody of Aqua'sclassic cheesy yet irritatingly catchy "Barbie Girl." Be careful if you play it—it has a way of sticking in your head all day like the original.
I found this at AapkaVideo - Indian Videos, the East Indian version of YouTube. There's a lot of good stuff on there—I also came across a couple of clips from Big Brother: India, and an awesome Nike ad that managed to make even this sports apatheticist feel some enthusiasm about Cricket for a minute there. I credit the elephant.

This morning was sheer hecticity. I'll spare you the gorey details and just be glad that things have settled down since lunchtime.
Speaking of lunchtime, during mine I went out and did my Valentine's shopping. V-day kind of snuck up on me this year. I guess I spent so many years bitterly ignoring its existence that it's still hard to remember I actually have someone to buy stuff for. I think I can safely tell you what I got my dearly beloved, since I'm pretty sure he hasn't checked out my blog since that one time my sister sent him there to read it and help him decide if he wanted her to ask me to maybe go on a date with him some time. It's not that big a deal, really. I picked out a simple gold band for him to wear until we can afford to get a proper replacement for his lost wedding ring. Now I just have to decide whether to give it to him tomorrow or wait until he takes me out this weekend.
...
I just took a break to go refresh my coffee, and what did I find in the kitchen but free pizza! Goodbye diet, helloooo cheesy goodness! It's the best day ever! Okay, not quite. But this is a definite improvement.
Anyway. Before I got all distracted by Canadian bacon and mushrooms, I wanted to point you to this video, which I think can be appreciated by anyone who's been on either side of a tech support call.

I love it when the engineers ask me to show them how to do something instead of just asking me to do it for them. Teaching a man to fish, and all that.
~~~
I'm currently shopping for a web host. I had one all picked out, but after I went through the signup process and was ready to submit my payment, only then did they reveal that instead of billing me the advertized monthly fee in actual monthly installments, they wanted two years' worth of fees in one lump sum up front, which...no.
After looking around at several hosting options and only finding a couple that don't do this, I think I've made up my mind to just go back to my old host. I was always pretty happy with them, and after some comparison shopping I don't think I'm going to find a better deal for a host that both meets my current needs and provides plenty of room for growth. I was hoping to find something with an easy page building interface and/or a web based FTP file manager thingy, since until I have a home office again (which won't happen until I have a home in which to set up such an office), I'm looking at building and maintaining the thing on my lunch hours and downtime, and that prohibits installing any new design tools or FTP programs. But then I remembered that I'm probably just going to keep using Blogger to make all of my pages anyway, so that point is moot for now. My old host it is, then.
~~~
Did I mention that the mandatory lunchtime meeting scheduled for yesterday got postponed? Well, it did, so I went to the gym to work off some hormone- and husband-related stress. I got there and discovered I forgot to pack gym socks, and neither was I wearing any. I was too afraid of getting blisters if I did anything aerobic, so instead, for the first time since the day before my wedding, I did the entire Pilates workout routine, or at least as much as I could remember, from my Crunch! Pick Your Spot Pilates DVD. People, I is sore! I woke up this morning to find that I'm one giantwalking shuffling ball of ache. Owch.
~~~
Lastly, here's a link I pilfered from Boing Boing to a video about how far the web has come in pretty much the time that I've been using it. It's pretty neat, and it tells me that I definitely need to go back and get schooled all over again in web design, because all of my self-taught know-how is strictly Web 1.0.
